Since the beginning of 2024, employees of the veterinary center of the Zaporozhye region have vaccinated more than 40 thousand domestic animals on farms of various forms of ownership, the press service of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation reported on May 27. .
Furthermore, in the third decade of May, specialists from the veterinary center expect the delivery of 120,000 doses of oral vaccine to immunize wild carnivores against rabies. It is planned to cover at least 6,000 square kilometers of the territory of the Zaporozhye region with prevention.
The comprehensive work of the veterinary center’s specialists in animal immunoprophylaxis aims to increase the level of biosafety and ensure the uninterrupted operation of livestock companies, as well as prevent epizootic risks.
Let us remember that rage is incurable; People are at risk of infection from sick animals. However, animals do not become infected with rabies if they receive the rabies vaccine once a year. The vaccine can be administered by injection, a method used for pets. To prevent rabies among wild carnivores, an oral vaccine has been specially developed, which begins to act after the animal ingests a bait specially left with the vaccine.
