It will be news: Recognition of Palestine, electoral debate on ETB1 and murder in Getxo

Summary of the main news that eitb.eus will publish today.

These are the topics that will occupy the main headlines from this Tuesday, May 28, 2024:

– Recognition of Palestine: The Government of Spain, together with Ireland and Norway, will formalize the recognition of the Palestinian State today, despite threats from Israel. The President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez, will make an institutional statement from La Moncloa starting at 8:30 a.m. The three countries have assured that this is a step in favor of the two-state solution, and they hope that other European countries can follow in their footsteps soon. Finland and Slovenia could be next to do so.

– Electoral debate on ETB1: Today EITB will offer the first debate of the European Parliament elections, starting at 10:00 p.m., live, on ETB1, Euskadi Irratia and eitb.eus. Hosted by Odei Esnaola, it will feature the participation of Oihane Agirregoitia (PNV), Pernando Barrena (EH Bildu), Maider Lainez (PSOE), Andeka Larrea (Sumar), Carlos Iturgaiz (PP) and Miren Echeveste (Vamos).

Murder in Getxo: Today they will silently gather again in Getxo to condemn the murder of the 23-year-old young man, Juan Felipe García, in the early hours of Saturday in the town. The event will take place at 7:00 p.m. in Satistegi Square in Algorta. The City Council has asked that the facts not be used to “label and stigmatize migrants.” In this sense, the Bizkaia Juvenile Prosecutor’s Office has denied the information that was circulating on the networks about the origin of the five detainees, and has announced that they are not unaccompanied foreign minors of Maghreb origin.
