Wholesale prices in Germany decreased in April 2024 compared to April 2023 by 1.8%, the press service of the German Federal Statistical Office reported on May 28.
According to the report published by the department, the drop in wholesale prices has continued for at least three months. Thus, in March 2024 wholesale prices decreased by 2.6%, and in February 2.7% compared to the same periods in 2023.
The department related the decrease in wholesale prices in April 2024 mainly to the decrease in wholesale prices for chemicals (-17.9%). In addition to chemicals, wholesale prices for minerals, metals and metallic semi-finished products also fell (-7.2%), as well as recyclable and waste materials (-6.8%).
Wholesale prices of several agricultural and food products also decreased. In particular, cereals, raw tobacco, seeds and feed fell in price (-12.2%), as well as milk, dairy products, eggs, edible oils and fats (-6.3%). .
In its report, the department noted that, on the contrary, wholesale prices for some products increased. Thus, compared to April 2023, in April 2024 wholesale prices for coffee, tea, cocoa and spices increased (+9.3%), sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+7.2% ), as well as tobacco products (+5%).
