The Iranian Air Force (Air Force) Oghab-44 (“Eagle-44”) underground airbase was visited by the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces (AF), Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and Commander of the Iranian Army Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi on February 7, the Tasnim news agency reported. .
The base can accommodate and flight-ready various aircraft, including fighters, bombers, and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). It consists of several sections, including a combat readiness zone, a command post, hangars for combat aircraft, a repair and maintenance center, navigation equipment, and airfields and fuel storage areas.
The base can also receive new Air Force fighters and prepare them for flights.
Oghab-44 is one of several air force tactical underground bases that have been built across Iran in recent years, keeping in mind the operational needs of air force units and civil defense requirements.
Bases located under mountainous areas have a high level of security. They can be used for surprise air operations for the enemy.
Underground bases provide cover for fighters, equipping them with electronic warfare systems, various bombs, and missiles, including Yasin, Qaem, and Asef, enabling autonomous air operations and expanding the strategic range of strikes against distant targets.
Earlier, the Iranian Air Force introduced an underground UAV base, called “UAV 313 Base”. Events in recent years show that the Iranian Air Force has plans to establish underground bases throughout the country, the agency said.
