The prosecutor’s office (MP) is investigating the causes of problems (two in 13 months) in the tender for the purchase of 10 thousand “body cameras” (unified cameras) for the security forces and an image storage platform launched in April 2023 by the Socialist Party Government company.
The process did not even go beyond the acquisition and implementation of the platform. It is worth recalling that the competition announced by the previous Minister of the Interior, José Luis Carneiro, involved the use of the same platform for storing CCTV images. Disagreements between the companies involved began shortly after the government specifications were published. Accusations of favoritism even led José Luis Carneiro to cancel the competition in November. Another one was launched, on almost the same terms as the first, and which was also contested. Now the deputy wants to understand the causes of problems with competition.
However ‘Publicreported on Tuesday that the NCIS, which was the first to receive “body cameras” (112) for use on patrol, cannot begin using them due to the lack of an opinion from the National Data Protection Commission. The law governing the use of this equipment requires that the regulatory authority, in this case the Department of Defense, request such permission.
