Due to a lack of fuel at gas stations in Punjab, Pakistan’s largest province, a fuel crisis has begun, the Daily Times reported on February 8, citing local sources.
It is reported that due to the shortage, several fuel pumping stations were closed at once in many Punjab cities: Haryana, Sargodha, Gujranwal, Sialkot Narowal, Okara and Shakargar. At the same time, long lines formed at gas stations.
According to the agency, the situation is aggravated by the fact that there are rumors among residents about an imminent increase in fuel prices. Therefore, peak demand begins at service stations.
In addition, the agency notes that it is beneficial for fuel sellers to hold back the products so that prices can rise further. In Lahore, Gujrat, Sargodha, Gujranwal, Sialkot, Multan, Bahawalpur and Faisalabad, only a few gas stations are reported to dispense gasoline.
Recall, it was previously reported that fuel producers explained the delays by the fact that banks do not provide letters of credit for the purchase of raw materials. However, Pakistani Oil Minister Musadegh Malik said there will be no fuel shortage in the country for the next 20 days.
In late January, Finance Minister Ishak Dar announced another fuel price increase of Rs 35 (15 rubles) per liter, which was about 15% of the price increase. However, despite these measures, as well as statements by officials, the country continues to experience fuel shortages.
