A British couple claims they were tortured by Turkish police while traveling around the country for their birthday. The 30-year-old man and his 23-year-old partner traveled to Antalya to celebrate his wife’s birthday and spent two days in Kemer. The woman claims she was sexually assaulted and the man punched and kicked her.

The nightmare began on May 11, the day after arriving in Turkey, when they decided to return to the hotel after lunch at the cocktail bar. On the way, a man tried to steal a woman’s suitcase, but she yelled at the suspect and he ran away.
A few minutes later a police car stopped next to him. Six police officers got out of the car and told the couple they were to escort them to the police station.
Tourists believe that this was some kind of military base, given the distance of the destination from the original location. According to them, when they arrived, they were immediately separated, placed in different rooms and tortured by a team of Turkish police.
Washed in cold water with his hands cuffed behind his back and then left to shiver in the night air, a terrified man told how he heard his girlfriend screaming in another room as she was sexually assaulted by guards.
The pair were later released but stripped of all their belongings, including mobile phones and money, after a man described by tourists as a “good sergeant” arrived and asked officers what was going on.
Shaken by the traumatic experience, the British tourists were desperate to leave and so decided to leave the hotel the next day and fly back to the United Kingdom. However, when they arrived at the ticket counter, some agents were waiting in the lobby in intimidating poses.
Upon arrival at the airport, the couple was stopped by another officer and given them a mobile phone, which they allegedly used to talk to the attackers. The couple were threatened to remain silent. “They told me: go back to your country. If you talk about our police again, you’ll be in trouble.”
“It was the worst experience of my life,” the man guarantees.
