The amateur crab fishing season has begun for the fourth time, which will last until the end of the year, the press service of the government of the Murmansk region reported on May 29.
Recreational crab fishing is carried out in eight designated areas in the Barents Sea. Crab fishing areas are located in the Teriberskaya Bay area, as well as in the Dolgaya Shchel Bay – Malonemetskaya Zapadnaya Bay, in the Svyatonossky Bay, in the Yarnyshnaya Bay and in the Medvezhya Bay.
The issuance of bonds and the organization of excursions on the Kola Peninsula are carried out by companies that, by order of the Ministry, have been allocated a quota of a total volume of 160 tons.
Let us remember that two species live in the Barents Sea: the king crab and the opilio or snow crab. In the middle of the last century, specialists intentionally populated the first species: in total, from the 60s to 1978, about 5 thousand adult crabs, more than 10 thousand young specimens and about 1 .5 million eggs. .
