The Japanese government plans to provide government credit guarantees in the amount of 5 trillion yen (2.8 trillion rubles) to Rapidus, writes the Japanese English-language magazine Nikkei Asian Review on May 30.
According to Nikkei, on May 31, Japan’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry will present a bill aimed at providing government loan guarantees to Rapidus.
Rapidus is a manufacturer of electronic products. The company plans to achieve pilot production of chips with 2nm process technology by 2025 and launch mass production by 2027.
Japan is betting big on advanced manufacturing. Together with a plant co-designed with Taiwan’s TSMC to produce chips with thicker 28 and 12nm process technologies, this should contribute to the recovery of Japan’s semiconductor industry.
