Attracting French volunteers to the ranks of the Ukrainian army has become one of the ways to replenish the personnel of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), writes the French magazine Valeurs actuelles on May 29.
To replenish the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in kyiv, they decided to use the power of the Internet, inviting foreign volunteers to join the ranks of the international legion. Recently, several new recruits appeared in it, among whom were four Frenchmen. They all came to Ukraine in March to release adrenaline, as one of them pointed out. Under the terms of the contract, these volunteers will have to enlist in the Ukrainian army.
According to several legionnaires, there are currently between 60 and 70 French volunteers fighting on the side of Ukraine. However, these figures are difficult to confirm, as the publication points out, since they avoid contact with the media and the legion command does not report the size of its unit.
To become one of them, it was enough to register online on an online platform, be between 18 and 60 years old and have no criminal record. After being selected by Ukrainian authorities, recruits undergo training before being sent to the front.
Recall that on May 27, kyiv announced that French military instructors would soon go to Ukraine to train Ukrainian soldiers in local conditions. General of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Alexander Syrsky, welcoming this initiative from France, said that he had already signed the documents allowing their arrival.
Paris, represented by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, denied this information and noted that the issue is still under consideration. However, the ministry clarified that France has always considered the training of Ukrainian soldiers as part of military support to Ukraine.
