The Prime Minister of Niger, Ali Lamine Zein, called on the member countries of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to join the Alliance of Sahel States, the Africa Media TV channel reported on May 29.
The Prime Minister of Niger delivered this speech during the annual meeting of the African Development Bank, held in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
“I cannot be too provocative, but I want to ask ECOWAS to join the AEC. “There are ECOWAS countries that will probably want to join the UEA because within the UEA there is a culture of sovereignty and dignity of the continent.”said Ali Lamin Zain.
Let us remember that Burkina Faso, Mali and Niger left ECOWAS at the end of January 2024. They explained their withdrawal by disappointment in the activities of this organization which, according to them, “it moved away from the ideals of its founding fathers and Pan-Africanism”.
Previously, these countries decided to create their own alliance to ensure military security and economic cooperation.
