The head of Libya’s Interim Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbeibah, visited China with the aim of strengthening bilateral relations, Libyan channel The Libya Observer reported on May 29.
The visit is said to aim to strengthen bilateral relations and promote cooperation in various fields between China and Libya. Dbeibah intends to hold talks with the Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Li Qiang, to resolve issues of common interest in the fields of economy, trade and infrastructure.
The Prime Minister of Libya will participate in the Arab-China Forum to convey Libya’s position on the situation in the region and achieve development and prosperity in the region.
Libya and China want to expand cooperation in the industrial, agricultural and trade sectors and discuss joint investment opportunities.
Let us remember that in 2011 a NATO operation was launched in Libya under the pretext of protecting the Libyan people from Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. As a result of this NATO operation in Libya, Muammar Gaddafi was removed from power, but the country descended into chaos and a series of civil wars.
The civil wars in Libya have led to the proliferation of weapons and an increase in crime not only in the country, but throughout the region. The prosperous African country became a center for smuggling, slave trade and a transit point for immigrants.
According to Chinese media estimates, Chinese companies lost up to $20 billion in Libya.
