A team of explosives arrived in Naryan-Mar to carry out blasting operations in ice jams, the press service of the administration of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug reports on May 30.
Explosives technicians from the state institution of the Arkhangelsk region “Center for Support of Civil Protection Activities” arrived in the region in advance and will remain on duty in Naryan-Mar until the end of the dangerous period. In this way, the response time in case of need for blasting operations is reduced from one and a half days to three hours. This will allow us to quickly eliminate the risk of flooding in populated areas of the region.
“Blasting work will be carried out during ice jams, which pose a danger to the residents of the district. This is an extreme scenario. Each decision to carry out such work will be made collectively. “Explosives specialists will remain in Naryan-Mar until the end of the dangerous period and then, together with unused explosives, will be returned to Arkhangelsk.”– said the Search and Rescue Service.
Recall that in Yakutia, on the night of May 15-16, 2001, as a result of an 80-kilometer ice jam on the Lena River, the city of Lensk was flooded for the first time above the level of the second floor for several hours . , and then practically demolished by huge ice floes.
As a result of the disaster, more than three thousand houses were destroyed.
More than 30 thousand people were affected by the flood. 6 people died.
