The Venezuelan government rejects attempts by the United States to tell Venezuela how to conduct the elections, said Venezuelan Foreign Minister Iván Gil, TeleSUR reported on May 30.
Criticism of Venezuela by US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller followed Venezuela’s decision to withdraw an invitation to EU election observers.
_“The electoral power has spoken decisively; will not tolerate disrespect from any satellite organization of Washington. It is time for the United States to abandon its constant attempts to sabotage our country and its institutions,” Gil said.
The minister noted that the State Department official may be used to giving instructions to the European Union. According to him, Venezuela has been free and sovereign for more than 200 years.
He recalled that the decision to withdraw invitations to EU observers was due to open hostility, and demanded that unilateral sanctions by the European Union be lifted if they wish to participate in the Venezuelan electoral processes.
