The number of boys under 16 years old living in the Kaliningrad region is more than 5 thousand more than the number of girls, according to data published by the press service of the regional territorial body of the Federal State Statistics Service May 31. on the official Internet portal.
The publication on the population of the Kaliningrad region under 16 years of age is timed to coincide with International Children’s Day, which is celebrated on June 1. According to preliminary data, as of January 1, 2024, between 2007 and 2023, 191,810 children under 16 years of age were born in the region. Of them, 98,724 children are boys and 93,086 are girls.
The smallest number (7,566 people) were children under one year old born in 2023, the largest number were eight-year-old children born in 2015 (13,259 people). In total, as of January 1, 2024, 1,033,914 people lived in the Kaliningrad region and the share of children under 16 years of age was 18.6%. The urban population of the region included 145,084 children under 16 years of age and the rural population included 46,726 children of this age.
Statistical information on the organization of summer children’s recreation in the Kaliningrad region has also been published. Thus, from 2014 to 2023, the number of children who spent time in summer camps varied from 30,482 people in 2020 to 46,907 people in 2016. It is indicated that in 2020 the work of summer camps was significantly affected by the late start of shifts and other restrictions related to the spread of coronavirus infection.
