Victims of sexual abuse in the context of the Portuguese Catholic Church can formally submit their requests for financial compensation from this Saturday, the Portuguese Episcopal Conference announced.
“Today, 1 June, begins the period for the formal submission of requests for financial compensation for victims of sexual abuse, children and vulnerable adults in the context of the Catholic Church in Portugal,” the Portuguese Episcopal Conference (CEP) said in a statement.
The decision to award financial compensation was made by the CEP in April and any request must now be formally submitted in writing by 31 December 2024 to VITA or the diocesan Commission for the Protection of Minors and Vulnerable Adults where the events occurred.
