The head of the AD list considered that this Saturday is the most suitable day for the PS to clarify what its “red lines” are in Europe, given the participation in the election campaign of the candidate of the European Socialists for the presidency of the European Commission.
“Today, as the Portuguese PS accepts its candidate for membership of the European Commission, you [Nicolas] Shmit, I think the day has come when PS should give the Portuguese an explanation. The Portuguese need to know who they will vote for on the 9th,” Sebastian Bugalho said during a lunchtime rally at the Escola Secundária de Paços de Ferreira, attended by about 800 people.
Bugalho recalled that Nicholas Schmit is supported by three socialist governments: the government of Denmark, “which wants to deport migrants,” the government of Malta, “which criminalizes abortion,” and the government of Spain, “which is building physical walls on its borders.”
“Like Dr. Martha Temido [cabeça de lista do PS] support for the President of the European Commission, who is not just a candidate, but someone who depends on those who carry out the policies that she so criticizes?” he asked, considering that “it is not clear.”
Sebastian Bugalho stressed that if the Portuguese vote for the AD, “they know who they are going to vote for,” but this will not happen if they vote for the PS.
“The PS said that we must say “no is no.” We adhere to the principle “no is no” and govern without extremes,” he emphasized.
In his opinion, since his opponents “have no program,” they are left with only “untruths in the election campaign and extremes in politics.”
“We, fortunately, have more, we have rooms full of life, a program of 34 pages of proposals,” he emphasized.
Sebastián Bugallo took advantage of the lunchtime rally to comment once again on the encounter he had this Saturday morning, during a walk by the sea in Vila Nova de Gaia, with a runner who asked him to take a “selfie”, but when asked, she was going to vote in AD, he expressed doubts.
“I don’t know, I’m a woman, we celebrate the 50th anniversary on April 25, and I think it’s important to have a woman at the helm. April 25 was one of the best events for women,” said the runner, adding that “the emancipation of women on April 25 was very good.”
The AD candidate told lunchtime rally attendees that he took a “selfie”: “You’ve already noticed that I actually like selfies, I like intimacy, I’m not here to imitate anyone, I swear.”
“He told me that he really liked me, but he hadn’t decided on his voice yet. He explained that women should lead, and we at AD obviously also believe that women should lead,” he emphasized, repeating that from day one, “women have been protected, promoted and have been the main supporters of AD’s political project.” , despite criticism from opponents.
Accepting Undersecretary Castro Almeida’s advice to “response with a smile in the face of adversity”, he assured that this is exactly what he did.
“They try, they attack, they call this, they call that, and I continue to smile, because from day one I was committed to the personalistic, humanistic and moderate spirit of AD,” he emphasized.
And he added: “There are adversities, there are critics. And I’m not talking about bad intentions, I’m saying that small mistakes happen that harm us, this is part of politics, let’s look at them naturally and with a smile. Of course they apply pressure.”
However, in his opinion, “it is not this pressure that really matters,” but rather the AD’s responsibility “to serve the people and protect the Portuguese.”
Before the lunch meeting, Sebastian Bugallo visited the Serralves em Festa in Porto, where he received support and was recognized as the youngest, like little Francisca.
“My mother always says his name,” the girl told reporters.
Support was also gathered among older people, for example, a woman who assured that she had no doubt that her vote would be for AD, because the country should move “forward” and not backward.
