The man who killed his 51-year-old catechist aunt and attacked his 78-year-old grandmother in the early hours of Friday in Guinetes, municipality of Ponta Delgada, Azores, allegedly acted after the women refused to give him money. According to the SP, which announced the arrest this Saturday, the 27-year-old suspect lived with two women and attacked the victims using various objects. He is charged with two crimes of qualified murder: one completed, the other attempted.
The crime took place at home and was caused by a psychotic episode on the part of the attacker. Both women were rescued by the Ponta Delgada fire service, which transported them in serious condition with the support of life support machines to the CUF hospital in Ponta Delgada. The young woman suffered cardiopulmonary arrest, was unable to resist her injuries and died in the medical department. She was stabbed several times in the head.
The Judicial Police said in a statement that she had the support of the PSP. The man was detained and taken to the first judicial interrogation to apply coercive measures.
The community of Ginetes Parish is shocked by this crime. The attacker’s aunt worked for several years as a catechist and owned a bar in Ponta Delgada, and the grandmother is still considered a very active person.
