Robert Pickton, the “serial killer” who became famous for feeding the remains of his victims to pigs, died on Friday after being attacked in prison. The killer was 74 years old and was serving a life sentence for committing at least 26 murders.
According to Daily mailOn May 19, the man was involved in an attack on another prisoner and had to be hospitalized because he could not cope with the severity of his injuries. The killer’s death is being investigated by authorities.
Robert Pickton is considered one of Canada’s worst serial killers. He was convicted of six counts of second-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison in 2007 with a maximum non-parole period of 25 years after he was accused of killing 26 women. However, Robert Pickton is believed to have killed more people.
An undercover police officer said the gunman even boasted that he had killed 49 women.
Two decades ago, Vancouver police were forced to investigate the disappearances of dozens of women. Authorities have been criticized for not taking the cases seriously, as many of the missing were sex workers or drug users.
Authorities investigated the case for several years and eventually got to Robert Pickton. When they searched the man’s farm, they found the remains or DNA of 33 women.
Health authorities have warned of the possibility of contamination of the meat as people may eat meat with human remains.
In 2016, a book allegedly written by Pickton was removed from Amazon just hours after it went on sale. In the book, the serial killer claims that he is innocent and that the police framed him.
