A 20-year-old man was arrested this Saturday for having a large knife during the riots in Caldas da Rainha, PSP reported this Sunday.
According to a note from the Leiria Public Security Police District Office, at 21:20 PSP Caldas da Rainha arrested a 20-year-old man for possession of a prohibited weapon.
The PSP station in Caldas da Rainha, Leiria district, received a telephone call reporting that there was “a disturbance involving several people” near one of the bars in Plaza 5 de Utubro.
When agents arrived on scene, they discovered that some of the participants had “gone away.”
“Several minutes later, following a citizen’s alert, it was discovered that in an artery adjacent to this area, a person was holding a large knife in his hand and exhibiting aggressive behavior,” the statement added.
In this sense, the PSP took “security measures by immobilizing, handcuffing and detaining” the suspect.
According to PSP, the detainee had been involved in a disturbance a few minutes earlier and “came to the house to obtain a knife with the intention of committing an attack.”
The PSP also identified two other citizens on suspicion of involvement in the riots, and they did not have anything illegal on them, police also said.
