The BU candidate in this Sunday’s European elections said the right was turning into a “war army against women”, while the bloc’s coordinator accused the Democratic Alliance of being in league with “hordes of abortion persecutors”.
“We know for sure that with every victory, women will be increasingly attacked. The flag of today’s right is this attack: they feel that equality threatens privilege and responds to violence. The right is becoming an army of war against women,” accused Catarina Martins at a party rally in Quinta das Conchas in Lisbon.
A candidate for the European Parliament said that “Andre Ventura’s allies [presidente do partido Chega]whether it’s Miley, whether it’s Trump, whether it’s Meloni, whether it’s Orban, see women’s rights as a goal” and that “Montenegro’s allies want to get closer to Ventura’s allies, claiming that they have become normalized and are democrats.”
“But we know that anyone who wants to trample on women’s rights is not a democrat, he is simply someone who despises humanity,” he criticized.
Based on the example of the Argentinean Nora Cortiñas, a women’s rights activist who challenged the dictatorship in this country and died this Thursday at the age of 94, the blocker recalled that the PSD and the CDS-PP, even after the referendum on abortion Volunteer, “they voted against legislation decriminalizing abortion.”
“I remind you that two months ago one of the leaders of the coalition explained that they would do the same trick again, and I remind you that just because the PPM is hidden in the attic, we do not allow it to repeat the Iberian male scene,” he dismissed, having referring to the Democratic Alliance coalition (which unites PSD, CDS-PP and PPM).
In the same vein, BE coordinator Mariana Mortagua accused the Democratic Alliance of being in league with “hordes of abortion persecutors” at European level.
“Look at the right now: hordes of anti-abortionists are allowed to enter Italian centers where women are going to have abortions because they decide so, but is this some kind of red line for Von der Leyen’s European party? Sebastian Bugallo and Luis Montenegro? No, these persecutors of women are good allies and together they will choose who will lead the European Commission, that is, positions above condemnation, if the Portuguese right still has any convictions,” accused Mariana Mortagua.
The SDP and CDS-PP are part of the European People’s Party (PPE) family and support the re-nomination of Ursula von der Leyen as President of the European Commission, who may need the support of the far right to be re-elected. -elected
The German leader has already expressed an apparent willingness to cooperate with the group of European Conservatives and Reformists (ERC), linked to the radical right and led by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.
“Those who believed in the red line in the face of neo-fascism can clearly see that the only red line is the zebra crossing that von der Leyen extended to the head of the Italian far right,” criticized Mortagua.
When the head of the list, Catarina Martins, and blockers such as Francisco Luzán or Luis Fazenda listened to her in the audience, Mortagua argued that “despising women is a way of life for the extreme right.”
“Every day it becomes clearer that the most traditional right and the most traditional right, the liberals, are a sliding ramp against democracy, they go hand in hand with the far right and will only achieve victory if they create fear,” he accused.
Earlier, Mariana Mortagua recalled the origins of the European project, which she viewed as “the promise of a good life, progress, a Europe of peoples united by equality.”
“We do not accept being told that war is the only solution, when in fact they have abandoned peace and all the mechanisms we have to achieve peace, from the power of the European Union and the UN to international sanctions, including compliance. with the decision of the international criminal court,” he said.
