This Sunday, Socialist Party MEP Margarida Marques accused the head of the AD list of lying when she claims that the President of the European Commission created the Next Generation EU and the blocker Katarina Martins of whitewashing the government.
At a rally in Viseu with many empty chairs that ended the seventh day of the campaign for Europeans on June 9, Margarida Márquez, who will leave the European Parliament because she is not on the PS list, gave a speech criticizing many of the Socialists’ opponents.
“It is very sad to hear Sebastian Bugallo say that it was von der Leyen who created this fund. [Next Generation EU]. Not true. It was not von der Leyen who created this fund,” he said, telling the story of the “very difficult” creation of this fund.
Margarida Márquez said that “this proposal appears for the first time on the recommendation of the European Parliament, proposed by the Socialists,” and the person who approved it at the first level was the Eurogroup, chaired by Mario Centeno.
After approval by the European Council, then Socialist Prime Minister António Costa played a “fundamental role” on two separate occasions, the socialist said.
“We need to know who the important actors were to avoid demagoguery and misappropriation of political decisions in the European Union,” he said.
Two weeks ago, at a campaign rally, Sebastian Bugallo said that Marta Temido “constantly praised the programs authored by Ursula von der Leyen, namely the Next Generation EU.”
Margarida Marquez also took a shot at BE list chief Catarina Martins.
“When we hear Katarina Martins say that with these rules, with this Stability and Growth Pact, the government cannot create kindergartens, hire nurses, hire doctors, this is not true. What Katarina Martins is doing is whitewashing the right-wing government.” , he accused.
According to the MEP, the current chief executive of PSD/CDS is “pursuing a policy of austerity” and this is justified by the European institutions.
“The Portuguese government has no justification for promoting austerity policies or for saying that it cannot solve its problem because Brussels does not sanction it,” he said.
On the far right, Margarida Márquez criticized the “hidden agenda” and found “the relationship between von der Leyen and Meloni unacceptable.”
“The remaining heads of the list, based on the lack of any knowledge of the functioning of European institutions, created the idea that none of them knows the European institutions. This is not true,” he said, citing as an example the knowledge of Marta Temido when she represented Portugal.
