This Monday, the Israeli army announced that it had intercepted a rocket allegedly fired by Houthi rebels from Yemen near the city of Eilat in southern Israel.
“Defense systems successfully intercepted, using the Strela system, a missile fired towards Israel from the Red Sea,” said a statement released through the official portal of the Israeli military.
The same note indicates that the rocket attack caused the activation of an air raid warning in the Eilat area, while emphasizing that no casualties were recorded.
The Houthi forces who control Yemen have not yet commented on Israel’s military note regarding the missile launches.
The Houthis, who have controlled the capital Sanaa and other parts of Yemen since 2015, have launched attacks on Israeli territory and on ships they say are associated with Israel.
The Houthi attacks began following Israel’s offensive on the Gaza Strip following the October 7, 2023 attacks by the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) that killed about 1,200 people.
The group has threatened to continue attacks until the end of the Israeli offensive, and in this context they have already attacked US and British ships and other strategic targets in response to US and UK bombing campaigns against Yemen.
