British footballer David Goodwilly was hired on Tuesday to join the Radcliffe team in the United Kingdom, but he was sacked just 24 hours later.
David was part of Radcliffe’s starting lineup on Tuesday and scored a hat-trick but was sacked by the club on Wednesday morning. David Goodwilly has been involved in several controversies since he was found guilty of raping a woman in 2011.
“As a club, we have always believed in second chances and we have been part of the rehabilitation of many players and staff along the way. When the club was presented to David Goodwilly, the same logic applied, but in this case it is clear that this was a major failure and our due diligence should have been held to a much higher standard,” the club said in a statement.
The management decided to terminate the contract with the player 24 hours after it was signed. “This is a mistake that will never happen again,” they conclude.
