First Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Sadovnikov called for increasing resources to extinguish forest fires in southern Yakutia at a meeting of the commission for the prevention and liquidation of emergency situations and ensuring fire safety, the press service of the head of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and the government of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) reported on June 5.
In the Aldán region, 8 fires were recorded, 7 of which occurred in remote and difficult-to-access areas.
5 fires were reported in Neryungri district. The majority is located in the control zone.
In the Olekminsky district there are 4 forest fires, which are located in inaccessible areas. This is the only municipality where a state of emergency has been declared due to the difficult situation of the fire.
On June 6, specialists from the federal Avialesookhrana will arrive in Yakutia to carry out blasting operations to extinguish forest fires. Specialists will deposit mineralized strips using a high-power detonating cord.
In Yakutia, the fire season has been open since May 6. In total, during this period, 74 forest fires were recorded in the region over a total area of 49,617.8 hectares.
Recall that 2021 has become the most catastrophic year in terms of fires for Russian forests since 2001. In Yakutia alone, the total area of forest fires amounted to about 8.5 million hectares or 85 thousand square kilometers. This is the largest loss due to forest fires in Russia in recent decades. According to Green Peace estimates, the fires destroyed record amounts of forests in Yakutia. Additionally, wildfires significantly increase permafrost degradation.
