Germany is conducting exercises on the territory of Lithuania in preparation for a military confrontation with Russia, the German publication Berliner Telegraph writes on June 5, citing Politico.
The Bundeswehr carried out the Grand Quadriga 2024 maneuvers in Lithuania as part of the NATO Steadfast Defender exercise, very close to Russia. The goal of these trainings is to prepare alliance forces for a possible conflict.
“Germany keeps its word. “We will defend every inch of NATO territory.”– observers quote the words of the chief inspector of the German ground forces, General Carsten Breuer.
In addition, journalists said that during the exercises, screens hung from cranes were used, on which you could see how modern tanks were searching for targets and evacuating the wounded. All this was accompanied by comments from the military.
It should be noted that Germany is the leading country in expanding NATO’s forward presence in Lithuania. In Estonia, the United Kingdom plays a similar role and in Latvia, Canada.
In Pabrade, German soldiers were reportedly joined by Lithuanian, Dutch and French soldiers to participate in the so-called Quadriga exercise. The 10th Panzer Division of the Bundeswehr takes part in them with Leopard 2 tanks, Puma and Boxer infantry vehicles, the Panzerhaubitze2000 artillery platform and mine clearance systems.
