The Tokyo government will launch a dating app to promote marriage and boost the declining birth rate. According to the report, the app, funded by the Metropolitan Government of Japan’s capital, will be launched this summer and will undergo a strict registration process. Independent.

To register on the app, users will have to present documents proving they are legally single and sign a letter expressing their desire to get married. In addition, they will have to provide proof of their annual salary.

According to the same source, each user will also have to provide 15 personal details such as height, education and profession. All this after an interview with the application operator.

The Tokyo government wants to provide a sense of security and support for those who are hesitant to use traditional apps. The 2024 budget allocated more than €1.7 million to promote weddings through apps and other projects.

“If many people are interested in marriage but cannot find a partner, we want to provide support,” said a Tokyo official quoted by the newspaper. Asahi Shimbun, Japanese newspaper.

The measure comes as the birth rate fell for the eighth year in a row to 758,631, down 5.1%. In 2023, Japan recorded more than twice as many deaths as births.
