Comprehensive work has been launched to protect Lake Ugii-Nuur in the Mongolian aimag of Arkhangai, the information portal ikon.mn reported on June 5.
The report notes that a large number of fishing nets are being removed from the lake bottom and the lake shores are being improved.
To clean the lake, a joint working group of the Office of the President of Mongolia, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism, the General Directorate of Emergency Situations and the Department of Water was created.
It was decided to remodel the lake shore and carry out works to prevent pollution caused by human activity, the report explains. It is indicated that cleaning work is also being carried out on the Orkhon River, which is connected to the lake by a canal.
Let us remember that Lake Ugii-Nuur is freshwater. It is rich in fish (pike, perch, rudd). Experts say that its age is several million years. Due to the influence of many factors, in 2014 the lake began to be seriously polluted, which negatively affects the ecosystem.
