The earthquake recorded this Wednesday in the Angolan provinces of Bie, Benguela, Huila and Huambo as a result of an earthquake with its epicenter in the city of Quito, caused panic among the population without recording any human or material damage.
People heard by Radio Angolan National (RNA) in the above-mentioned provinces reported moments of panic due to the earthquake, which affected several buildings, some of which were evacuated by firefighters.
The earthquake, with its epicenter in the city of Quito, province of Bie, was also felt in the provinces of Benguela, in the municipalities of Caconda, Calukembe and Lubango, province of Huila and in the province of Huambo.
Local authorities and citizens expressed concern to the RNC about the incident, which they said did not cause any human or property damage.
The Angolan National Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics (Inamet), in a note published this Wednesday, confirms the occurrence of an earthquake measuring 5.4 on the Richter scale (maximum 9) at 08:42 (same time in Lisbon) in the province of Bie.
Inamet technical specialists promised Lusa to provide more detailed information about the incident, but have not yet commented on the situation.
