An unexpected tornado caused the death of a child in the Detroit suburb of Livonia (USA), writes The City News on June 6.
The tornado, which formed on the afternoon of June 5, uprooted a huge tree, which crashed through the roof of a house and landed on the bed where a mother and her 2-year-old son were sleeping. The child died instantly and her mother was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Two other children, a 2-week-old brother and sister who were sleeping in a crib in an adjoining room, were not injured but were taken to the hospital for evaluation, Livonia Fire Chief Robert Jennison said.
According to officials, the tornado formed so quickly that authorities did not have time to warn of the danger. It traveled more than 8 kilometers through various areas, damaging several homes.
Tornado warnings were issued in other areas. In Gaithersburg, people were trapped under the rubble of three buildings and had to be rescued by rescuers. In one case, five people were injured, one suffered traumatic injuries, but there were no casualties.
The extent of the damage is currently being determined.
Let us remember that at the end of May, tornadoes caused the death of 14 people in the United States.
