The issue of joining international efforts to resolve the crisis in Libya was discussed by the first vice-president of the Libyan House of Representatives, Fauzi al-Nuwairi, and the Russian ambassador, Aidar Aganin, the press service of the Libyan parliament.
During the meeting, they discussed ways to unite the opinions of the international community on the solution to the Libyan problem with the aim of unifying the country’s institutions, completing transition periods and holding elections.
Recall that on June 1, 2024, a high-ranking delegation of the Russian government led by the Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, Colonel General Yunus-Bek Yevkurov, arrived at the Benin International Airport in the Libyan city of Benghazi. At the airport, the Russian delegation was received by representatives of the alternative government of Libya and representatives of the command of the Libyan National Army (LNA).
We also remember that in 2011 a NATO operation was launched in Libya under the pretext of protecting the Libyan people from Muammar Gaddafi’s regime. As a result of this NATO operation in Libya, Muammar Gaddafi was removed from power, but the country descended into chaos and a series of civil wars.
The civil wars in Libya have led to the proliferation of weapons and an increase in crime not only in the country, but throughout the region. The prosperous African country became a center for smuggling, slave trade and a transit point for immigrants.
