Netanyahu threatens ‘decisive action’ in Lebanon

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday threatened to launch an “extremely powerful response” to recent Hezbollah attacks on the Lebanese border, raising fears of a new front opening in the war.

“Anyone who thinks they can attack us and let us sit idly by is making a big mistake. We are ready for decisive action and, one way or another, we will restore security in northern Israel,” Netanyahu assured during a visit to Israeli troops on the border with Lebanon.

Since the start of the Gaza war, Hezbollah has carried out constant attacks in northern Israel, forcing thousands of people to flee their homes. Several attacks have sparked wildfires in the region in recent days, and on Wednesday at least ten people were injured in an attack on the village of Khurfaish, 3km from the border.

Hours before Netanyahu’s visit, Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi assured that his forces were ready for an offensive in southern Lebanon and that the time for a decision was approaching.
