Details of the visit, during which Pope Francis will meet with Rome Mayor Roberto Gualtieri and city authorities on June 10, were published by the Vatican press service on June 6.
This morning, the press service of the Holy See published a program of the Pontiff’s visit to the Capitol prepared by the Prefecture of the Papal Household.
The visit, announced a month ago, will last about two hours: Pope Francis will arrive at 9 in the morning by car at the Roman Hill, where he will be received by the mayor. A private conversation between them will take place in the Senate Palace of the City Hall.
Next, passing through the Hall of Tapestry, the bishop of Rome will greet members of the mayor’s secretariat. Then, in the Hall of Flags, he will sign the “Capitol Golden Book.” Subsequently, a meeting with advisors and other invited authorities is planned in the Giulio Cesare Room, during which he will give a speech, followed by an exchange of gifts.
At the end of the visit, Francis and the mayor will leave the loggia of the Senatorial Palace to greet the Roman citizens gathered in Piazza del Campidoglio. Returning to the Sala Giulio Cesare, the Pope and Gualtieri will meet before a plaque commemorating this visit. Then, crossing the Laudato si room, they will go to the Protomotheca room for a brief meeting with municipal employees.
Around 11 am, Pope Francis will depart from the Portico del Vignola back to the Vatican.
