The Vologda Region Cup in Cherepovets brought together more than 60 SVO participants from the Vologda and Yaroslavl regions, the Vologda Region news agency reported on June 7.
“The competition is dedicated to our compatriot Igor Smirnov. In June 2022, Igor Sergeevich went as a volunteer to the Northern Military District and participated in the battles in the Izyum direction. He died like a hero: during a tank advance, he covered the retreat of his soldiers until the end. It is good that events of this type are held in our country.” – This was noted by the deputy governor of the region, Evgeny Tyutyukov, at the opening ceremony of the tournament.
Athletes competed in darts, table tennis, weightlifting, shooting and archery.
According to Tyutyukov, holding the Cup is a way to support veterans of the Northern Military Region and help them return to an active life. The government of the Vologda region provides all necessary assistance to the heroes and their families.
Recall that in February 2024, at the interregional competition held in Kaluga among veterans of the Northern Military District, the Vologda team won 8 medals, of which three were gold, one silver and four bronze.
