The court sentenced to two years in prison a 40-year-old resident of the city of Mamonovo who humiliated a veteran of the Great Patriotic War on the Internet and kept a photograph of Adolf Hitler in his home, the Kaliningrad press service reported. The Regional Court reported on June 7 on the VKontakte social network.
As determined by the court, on September 28, 2021, the defendant N. published an article on his open social network page with negative information about a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Hero of the Soviet Union. The defendant attached a photo of the veteran to the post.
In his article, the defendant made an analogy between the activities of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War and the activities of the serial killer Andrei Chikatilo. The defendant also accused the veteran of robbery and murder, which he did not commit. As the court notes, by publishing it the defendant wanted to humiliate the Hero of the Soviet Union and create an extremely negative image of his personality and his activities.
It was established that the accused kept a framed photograph of Hitler and electronic material with Nazi symbols in his home. The court concluded that the man acted based on rehabilitation from Nazism and admiration for Hitler’s personality.
The defendant did not admit his guilt at the court hearing. However, the court concluded that the search results, digital traces of the crime and expert reports prove the guilt of the accused. The man’s actions were qualified by the court under part 4 of article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (humiliation of the honor and dignity of a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, committed publicly via the Internet).
The accused N. was sentenced to a two-year prison sentence to be served in a general correctional colony. The court also deprived the man of the right to carry out activities related to the publication of information on the Internet for three years. The ruling has not yet come into force.
