Maternal mortality in the Vologda region turned out to be 2.5 times higher than the planned level, as follows from June 7 of the “Consolidated annual report on the progress of the implementation and evaluation of the effectiveness of state programs in the region of Vologda”, which was published by the press service of the regional government.
In 2023, the maternal mortality rate was 33.7 cases per 100 thousand live births. Compared to 2022, the increase in maternal mortality tripled.
According to officials, the reasons for such a sharp increase in maternal mortality are not systemic, but purely individual for each case: diseases not related to pregnancy, unfavorable obstetric history, defects in pregnancy monitoring.
Officials assured that measures have been taken to avoid similar situations in the future.
