The suspension of the membership of the Russian Chess Federation (RFC) in FIDE is unfair, said on June 7 the press secretary of the president of the Russian Federation and at the same time chairman of the board of directors of the FCR, Dmitry Peskov , in a comment to TASS.
“We definitely think this decision is unfair.”Peskov said, adding that the FCR will appeal this FIDE decision.
Peskov also noted that he hopes to convince FIDE to change its decision. “So far we have had very constructive relations with FIDE, we hope that we will be able to overcome this misunderstanding”– he said.
Recall that previously FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich reported that the first instance of the FIDE Ethics Commission suspended FSA membership for two years and reprimanded Dvorkovich himself for participating in the FSR Board of Directors.
Dvorkovich also said that the decision has not yet come into force and will be discussed at the organization’s assembly in September 2024.
It should be noted that the case against the FSR was initiated by Ukraine, which complained about the activities of the FSR in new regions of Russia.
