A 56-year-old man was placed in pre-trial detention on suspicion of killing his 49-year-old woman with a hammer on May 25 in Porto Mos, Leiria municipality.
The crime was committed after the victim expressed a desire to get a divorce. After attacking a woman, which resulted in her death, the suspect attempted to commit suicide using a sharp weapon. The man gave the warning about the murder to the Republican National Guard. Over the phone, the man admitted what he had done.
As a result, the man was hospitalized in the intensive care unit at the Hospital Center and University of Coimbra due to serious injuries. After being discharged from the hospital, he was detained by the Judicial Police of Leiria and attended the first interrogation, to which a preventive detention measure was applied.
