Dick Van Dyke, 98, made history at the 51st Daytimes Emmy Awards by becoming the oldest recipient of the award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his role as Timothy Robichaud on Days of Our Lives. The actor and singer, known for his performances in musicals, received the trophy along with his wife, who is 46 years his junior, according to the Daily Mail.
“I can not believe this. (…) For me this is a completely different honor. I rarely get recognized for my dramatic performances. After all, comedy and musicals are my specialty. It’s a great honor for me,” he said.
In his speech, Dick Van Dyke expressed gratitude to his wife for all her support in recent years. The actor met Arlene Silver at the 13th Annual SAG Awards in Los Angeles in January 2007, and despite their age difference, they immediately began to get along as friends. Over the years, friendship grew into love and they began a relationship.
The most memorable films in which Dick Van Dyke starred are Mary Poppins (1964), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968) and Mary Poppins Returns (2018).
In addition to his role on Days of Our Lives, the actor recently appeared on The Masked Singer as The Gnome and The Simpsons as himself.
