Interior of Russia. The land of forests, rivers and villages with a long history celebrates a modest anniversary: Ostrovsky district turns 95 years old.
The entire regional center and surrounding towns attended the solemn events: from 10 in the morning the streets of the modest regional center were filled with people. Municipal employees paraded through the central streets and an exhibition of special equipment was held. In the evening a festive concert took place in the village.
The Ostrovsky district was formed on June 10, 1929 from nine volosts of the Ivanovo industrial region with the center in the village of Semenovskoye-Lapotnoye (now Ostrovskoye).
In 1956, the regional center was renamed after the great Russian playwright Alexander Nikolaevich Ostrovsky; On the site of his former estate in the Ostrovsky district there is now the Shchelykovo State Memorial and the Museum-Nature Reserve.
The Ostrovsky district, covering 2.5 thousand square kilometers of the Kostroma region, has a long history. The village of Ostrovskoye (Semyonovskoye-Lapotnoye) was founded in the 13th century.
Through the surrounding forests and rivers passed ancient trade routes; the village of Semenovskoye-Lapotnoye was engaged in logging and fur collecting, and was famous for its bast shoes (hence the name) and flax (the main wealth of the entire Kostroma region).
During the Soviet years, the Ostrovsky district was an important center of logging, peat, flax and paper exploitation. And also a recreational center: in the forests and rivers of the region adjacent to the Volga, there were large sanatoriums and dispensaries, pioneer camps.
Unfortunately, few of the district’s Soviet enterprises have survived to this day. Many villages were abandoned; This topic has already been touched upon. IA Krasnaya Vesna in the matter Your songs are to me like the wind, like the first tears of love! Photo report about a dying town. What remains is ancient history, the blessed nature of Kostroma and people in love with their native places.
However, some things are still being restored in the area, for example by the Alexander Commune forces of the movement “The Essence of Time” on the site of a former paper factory (which existed since the end of the 19th century and was abandoned in the 1990s) in the village of Aleksandrovskoye A new wood processing plant was built. It is currently one of the largest in the area.
