Portugal intends to renew its support for environmental projects in Cape Verde, the Minister of Responsibility Maria da Graça Carvalho said this Monday in the capital Praia at the start of a visit dedicated to the projects of the cycle that is coming to an end. .
“We have eight projects worth 2.3 million euros” and the goal is “to complete these projects and [trabalhar] in future cooperation, as well as on how to realize the transformation of Cape Verde’s debt into environmental projects – a project that comes from the past, but which was confirmed by Prime Minister Luis Montenegro during his visit to Cape Verde in April.
This Monday, the Minister of Environment and Energy accompanies the Minister of Agriculture and Environment of Cape Verde, Gilberto Silva, at the opening of the Santa Cruz Environmental Education Center, which will also serve as a platform for sustainable development and sustainability in the municipality.
This project, financed and implemented under the Cooperation Program between Cape Verde and Portugal (PEC 2021-2024), represents a global investment of €187,500 and will serve to raise awareness in the local communities of Pedro Badejo, 35 kilometers north of the capital Praia.
The Cape Verdean minister intends to present new projects and expressed “great satisfaction knowing that the Portuguese government remains fully committed to continuing this fruitful cooperation.”
The visit of the Portuguese government official “strengthens the mutual commitment of Cape Verde and Portugal to address common environmental challenges and promote sustainable development,” the ministry added in a statement about the visit.
Maria da Graça Carvalho will also represent the government among the Portuguese community in Praia at the June 10 celebrations at the Portuguese Embassy, a moment that will honor Ambassador Paulo Lourenço, who died in a violent death in May. acute cardiovascular disease.
In 2023, Portugal committed to become the first participant in the Cape Verde Climate Fund with 12 million euros.

In this case, the funds are intended for projects related to strengthening renewable energy so that Cape Verde can move closer to the government’s target of 50% production by 2030.
