Mozambican police said on Tuesday they would prosecute two police officers for allegedly brutally attacking a woman in the Homoín district of Inhambane province in southern Mozambique to force her to confess to the alleged crime.
“The institution distances itself from such behavior […] At this point, the corresponding protocol has already been drawn up and they will be held criminally responsible for their actions,” Nersia Bata, spokeswoman for the Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) in Inhambane, told the media.
The case in question is a video circulating on social media, approximately seven minutes long, in which two alleged police officers brutally beat a woman with a baton while demanding that she show her allegedly stolen goods.
According to local press reports, the agents and another woman assaulted the woman to extract a confession.
Mozambican police said an investigation team had been set up to “find out what really happened to the agents who tortured this citizen”, condemning the actions of the attackers.
“At this point, we propose to say that the reason does not matter, the behavior of PRM members is not justified, it is reprehensible, and the institution distances itself from this type of behavior because it is individual behavior,” Nersia concluded. Bata.
