In Germany, the possibility of introducing compulsory military service for women is being considered, the Berliner-Telegraph reported on June 13.
The initiative to introduce compulsory military service for women was presented by the vice-president of the CDU/CSU bloc in the Bundestag, Johan Wadeful.
“Today we cannot differentiate between men and women in defense matters” — Wadeful noted, highlighting the need for rapid implementation of such a service. Seconded by CDU expert Serap Güler, who also advocated for equality in military duties.
It previously emerged that Defense Minister Boris Pistorius plans to restore the military registration of those eligible for military service, which was canceled 13 years ago. In addition, the head of the Ministry of Defense intends to force young people to fill out questionnaires on their readiness and ability to serve, as well as undergo a medical examination. This will be the first step towards the possible return of mandatory military service.
