The Ethiopian Ministry of Water and Power (MoWE) is carrying out large-scale work to restart all conflict-affected water infrastructure in the Tigray region, Fana reports on February 9.
According to the Minister of Water Resources and Energy, Habtamu Itefa, a concerted effort is underway to restore water supplies to the 5.4 million inhabitants of the Tigray region.
Following the restoration of peace, a series of works were carried out to repair and reactivate damaged water supply facilities in various parts of the region.
Specifically, the minister indicated that necessary repairs had been carried out in 76 cities and neighborhoods, including Adwa, Aksum, Shire, Shiraro, Selekhleha, Adi Hagerai, Adi Daero, Adi Nebriid, Endabaguna and Wukro Marai.
As a result of these efforts, Itef said that more than 1.3 million citizens have already been able to restore access to drinking water.
