National Secondary School Examinations start today for over 156,000 registered students

National secondary education exams begin this Friday with the Portuguese language test for grade 12, the subject with the most students enrolled, and the Chinese language test for grade 11 students.

More than 156,000 students registered for the national exams this year, according to the Ministry of Education. This figure was surpassed only in the last six years in 2019, when almost 160 thousand students registered.

The first phase will begin this Friday with tests in Portuguese, for which 44,421 students are registered. In the afternoon, it will be the turn of the 11th year students to take the Chinese language test, one of the least popular.

The other four tests with the highest number of students registered are the Biology and Geography exam on June 18, which is expected to have about 43,000 12th year students, followed by the Physics and Chemistry A test on June 21, with about 40 thousand registered) and Mathematics A on June 26, more than 38 thousand students registered.

The first stage of national tests will end on June 28 with the “Descriptive Geometry A” and “History B” tests, which are intended for 11th grade students.

Of the more than 156,000 students who signed up for national exams this year, just over half intend to apply for higher education (57%).

These students should pay attention to the calendar as all grades will be released on July 15th and if they wish to try to improve their grade, they will have to enroll in Step 2 with only two days to do so (July 15th and 15th). July 16).

Applications for the first stage of the competition for access to higher education are accepted from July 22 to August 5.

Students who want to apply for higher education by taking stage two tests will have to do so between August 26 and September 4, and there are always far fewer places available in stage two.

The rules for access to higher education are currently not the same for all secondary school students.

For Year 12 students, the old rules that have been in place for the last four years following the Covid-19 pandemic continue to apply.

Thus, finalists only take the tests they need to graduate.

Students currently in year 11 will have to take three exams to graduate from high school: Portuguese in year 12, which will be compulsory for all students in the four science and humanities courses, and two more exams of their choice.
