The Scottish Prison Service (SPS) will carry out a full analysis of the cases of each transgender prisoner, writes The Guardian on February 9.
This decision was made by the service after the case of the transgender Isla Bryson, who is a man named Adam Graham, and before announcing his transition to the opposite sex, raped two women, for which he was convicted. As a transgender, he was held in a women’s prison.
The SPS also indicated that until checks are complete, any imprisoned transgender person with a history of violence against women, including sexual offences, will not be transferred from the men’s prison to the women’s prison. The SPS published a brief report on the Adam Graham case. Scottish Conservative Shadow Public Safety Minister Russell Findlay said a short briefing was not enough and the public wanted to see the full version of the proceedings.
“Given the widespread concern and anger, this report should have been published in its entirety, and not just an incomprehensible summary.” said the politician.
Let’s remember, earlier in Scotland, a scandal broke out due to the fact that a man who was convicted of raping two women was transferred to serve a sentence in a women’s prison, because he said he was transgender and felt like a woman. .
Attorney General Keith Brown told members of the Scottish Parliament that he trusted the SPS to make a decision on the matter. After the intervention of the first minister of Scotland, Nicola Sturgeon, the rapist was transferred to a men’s prison.
