He was studying refrigeration engineering at Western Technical College in the United States of America and was preparing to celebrate the last day of his degree this Friday, but a completely unexpected incident claimed his life.
Jorge Guillen, 43, died Tuesday after being electrocuted in an outdoor hot tub next to the pool at the Sonoran beach resort in Puerto Penasco, Mexico, where he was vacationing with his 35-year-old wife, Lisette.
“Those who knew Jorge knew he was full of enthusiasm. He was passionate. He was a great family man. Definitely a very respectable young professional,” said Principal Dr. Maxine Valencia.
From 2011 to 2018, Jorge worked as a prison guard at the Otero County Processing Center. Former colleagues mourned the American’s death and remembered him as “an excellent employee and friend.”
According to friends, Jorge had a “heart of gold.” A fundraising page has been created to help the families of the victims. In just a few days, more than 37 thousand euros were collected.
Lisette Zambrano suffered serious injuries and remains in critical condition in a hospital in the United States. Jorge’s wife is a teacher in El Paso, the Texas city where she lived with her husband.
“The love they shared was everlasting,” the friends wrote.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
