Broadcaster and journalist Jeremy Clarkson’s The Sun column dedicated to the Duchess of Sussex will be scrutinized by the UK’s Independent Press Standards Organization (IPSO), writes The Guardian on 9 February.
The service reportedly received more than 25,100 complaints from citizens about the information in this newspaper column.
In addition, the Independent Press Standards Organization said it was considering complaints from two groups, the Fawcett Society and the Wilde Foundation, who said they were affected by a number of provisions of the regulator’s Publishers Code that were breached in the column a columnist.
Also IPSO says that the number of complaints was a record. Jeremy Clarkson’s column from December 16, 2022 was published on Sun’s website but later removed.
IPSO said it will post the results of the investigation on its website and social media when it is complete.
A spokesperson for The Sun said: “We can confirm that we have received a formal complaint from IPSO. We consider our answer. The Sun sincerely apologizes and regrets the publication of this column.”
Remember that earlier the Duke and Duchess of Sussex accused TV presenter Jeremy Clarkson of writing articles that “spreading hate speech, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny” after he wrote that “hates” Meghan Markle has already described her dream, where she saw that Markle was the object of public disgrace.
On December 19, the presenter on his Twitter page publicly apologized for his words and said that in the column “made an awkward reference to a scene in Game of Thrones”
“I am horrified that I have caused so much damage and I will be more careful in the future.” Clarkson wrote.
Later, the presenter said that he contacted Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and apologized to them.
However, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex stated that the host’s email was only addressed to the Duke of Sussex and that “Need to deal with” “a long-standing practice of writing articles that spread hate speech, dangerous conspiracy theories and misogyny.”_
The Duke of Sussex called out an article about his wife “terrible, offensive and cruel” during an interview on ITV, adding that what Clarkson had allegedly written could “to encourage people around the world to believe that this is an acceptable way to treat women.”
The Fawcett Society is the UK’s oldest charity campaigning for gender equality and women’s rights. The organization dates back to 1866.
Wilde Foundation is a platform created to “advance, educate, empower and heal women and girls affected by all types of violence”even since “harmful cultural practices”.
