Mozambican authorities announced this Saturday the discovery of another body of a victim from a bus accident on Sunday in central Mozambique, bringing the total death toll to 26.
“We are not sure if this is the last body found, but we are searching locally,” a fire source in Sofala province said today.
On Wednesday, two more bodies, both in their 30s, had already been found in a creek where the bus had stopped following an accident caused by a possible improper overtaking.
A commission created by the Mozambique National Institute of Road Transport (Inatro), together with the police and the Mozambique Road Network (Revimo), is investigating the circumstances of this accident.
According to Inatro president Chinguane Mabote, the commission will conduct an expert examination and report on the accident, which also injured 48 people, seven of whom remain in a serious condition, in a head-on collision involving a bus that was allegedly illegally overtaking a truck on a national road. 6 (N6) in Mafambissa, Sofala province.
