The Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation has started a search for potential developers of the Russian video game console, according to the department’s press service, RBC reported on June 15.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade noted that a number of services necessary for cloud and operating systems to gain access to video games and applications have already been implemented and are working in Russia. Among them are VK Play (owned by the VKontakte company), MTS Fog Play (owned by Telecom Projects, a subsidiary of MTS), as well as Plus Gaming (Yandex).
“These platforms allow Russian and foreign copyright holders to publish video games for distribution among users and also allow remote use of video games on various platforms,” - noted in the ministry’s press service.
At this stage, a potential contractor for a government order is being sought, resources and ways to support developers are being sought. At the same time, negotiations are taking place both with the departments interested in the project and with business representatives.
Creating a home video game console will require synchronization with video game development or adaptation of already prepared game projects for a new device.
Recall that at the end of March 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the government to consider the issue of establishing Russian production. “game consoles and consoles”
